I probably spent 3 months straight researching cosmetic surgeons for my nose job. I had wanted one for years and years, so I was
certainly going to make sure I had the best doctor operating on me! I initially went to the Elyzea Clinic in search of a surgeon, and
the one that had the best reviews consistently was Dr Oelbrandt. By that time though, he had moved on and established his own clinic,
and I would say that was a brilliant move as the Elyzea Clinic is actually a pretty average place to go.
During my 1st consultation
Dr O managed to removed any lingering concerns I had. I wasn't actually able to find any negative reviews of him or the clinic (see if
you can!) and after meeting him I could see why. Most surgeons are a bit like hairdressers - they only half listen to you, suggest
things you don't need, and tend to do what they think is required. Dr O will tell you if he thinks you're being unrealistic and he
won't mince his words, which is so crucial when you're trying to make one of the biggest decisions of you life! He actually told me I
didn't really need a nose job, but would help make it appear less angular. I ended up having closed rhinoplasty, meaning there were no
scars at all. I had the bridge of my nose straightened, the tip reduced slightly, and the bit separating the nostrils lifted as it was a
bit droopy. We set the date for late December 2011, and he consistently answered any questions I had right up until the big day. That's
the best thing about him - he must have so many patients, but he never misses an email.
On the day, I was beside myself. I had taken
the train over with my partner and I was being ridiculous. I arrived at the clinic and Dr O's presence calmed me immediately. He could
see I was terrified but he wasn't indulging me; instead he went over with me what I wanted, what my expectations were, and what I could
expect once I had woken up. The clinic is brilliant, I can't fault it. It's sleek, clean, and actually quite lovely. I met the
anaesthetist, Michael, who was so wonderful and reassuring. I am absolutely petrified of sedation, and he could tell!! Unlike most
anaesthetists, he was kind and tactile and understanding; because of his good nature it made the whole process better.
Anyway, on to
the post-op stuff. I woke up feeling fine given what I'd been through. I was groggy for a couple of days because of the sedation, and my
head was stuffed with gauze, but it was ALL bearable. There are a few things to remember: NEVER play with your nose, NEVER pick at the
scabs, and DON'T panic if you bump it every now and then. Other than that it's just uncomfortable for about 2 weeks. 90% of my bruising
was gone within 7 days, and all my facial swelling had gone within 2 weeks. If you're doing your research properly, you will also read
that when you take your splint off it will look as though nothing has been done. This is partially true, it won't be the finished
product, but you can still see some change. What they don't tell you is what happens with you take your nasal packings out - you WILL
feel like you need to faint. Just relax, breath deeply and try not to look at them! So in a nutshell, the real bad stuff is over within
2 weeks.
Some things to expect after that point: Numbness on the tip of the nose, but extreme sensitivity underneath the skin (it's a
very weird feeling). This will pass though. You still won't be able to treat it as normal, it will still be sore, but it will feel a
little bit better after each day. Plus it's amazing to watch the transition!
I've gone into quite a bit of detail, but I'm doing so
because I found that other reviews didn't and I think it's the best way help others make a decision. Dr Oelbrandt is brilliant, as are
his team, and I couldn't fault him. If you have any questions about my experience please don't hesitate to contact me!
