From start to finish my families experience at Phyathai Sri Racha was a nightmare. Firstly I would like to say that we chose this
hospital because it allowed the father to be present at the birth. We had arranged all of this 6 months earlier. On the day of my wife
knowing that the baby would come we telephoned ahead to let them know so that our doctor could be on duty that evening. They told us to
come in immediately even though she wasn't in labour. When we got there one of the nurses told me that I was now not allowed to be
present at the birth of my daughter. They had changed their policy. I couldn't believe it and asked "Why are you telling me this now?
Why couldn't you tell me this before?" Obviously because they knew we would go somewhere else. What could we do? In hindsight both my
wife and I agreed that we should have left and gone somewhere else. Anyway I left my wife and took our oldest daughter to our room where
I waited for my wife's sister to come and take care of her. When I went back to see my wife I was told that I couldn't go in because she
was giving birth. What? But she wasn't even in labour? So I waited at the door and not long after they brought my daughter out and
placed her in a window for me to see. She had problems with her eyes. They were completely bloodshot. Then the doctor came out and told
me that my wife had complications from the birth and she would need an operation for a torn cervix. This was not included in the package
and I would have to pay extra. Of course anything. Just fix my wife. Again I waited until my wife came out of surgery and went with her
to our room. When she was able to talk she told me that when I left her with the nurses they were trying to talk her into having a
cesarean. She said no, she wanted natural as planned. The nurses left and returned with the doctor who came in to inspect her and and
then without telling her broke her waters and induced the birth. I was enraged to hear this. The doctor came to our room the next
morning and I confronted him about this. Why did you induce my wife? What was the reason? Why didn't you tell us about it? You didn't
have our permission. "It's called Active Management." I don't care what it's called, Why did you do it? "I wanted to take control of the
birth" That was the only reason. Complete arrogance It wasn't necessary and because of this he put both my wife and child's health at
risk. (I have come to understand that Active Management was his way of saying that he didn't want to be here at 2 in the morning and
wanted to go home for dinner.) He also stated that my wife's injury wasn't his fault but that this sometimes happens with old women
(she's 36) and wasn't because her cervix had hadn't dilated (????). Ironically I had to pay an extra 45,000 baht for her operation. We
should have just gone with the c-section.
So that was the birth. Next came the complete lack of post natal care offered by the nurses.
My wife was left alone in blood stained sheets on more than one occasion. It was left up to me to go and ask the nurses to tend to my
wife. And every time I went to the service desk it was the same every time. 4 or 5 nurses all on their phones. Absolutely pathetic.
There is so much more to this story but I won't go into it. I'm sure you get the idea.
My wife is of course Thai. And if you know what
Thai people are like they don't complain much. They don't like to offend other people. For my wife to tell me that this hospital is no
good, that the doctor and nurses are no good, that they didn't take care of her like the other hospitals have, and that they are only
interested in money, means a lot. She is still having complications and pain more than 2 years later.
My advice to anyone who is
considering going to this hospital, avoid it at all costs. In fact I would go so far as to say that I wouldn't take my dog here. The
health and care of your loved ones is not their priority. Do not believe anything that the staff here tell you. They are uncaring,
completely arrogant, incompetent and dangerously uneducated.
