As a Gay man I am not overtly "camp" but do take a pride in my appearance especially when clubbing etc,,,! I am single at present and
more than anywhere, on the Gay scene "first impressions are important". Its very hard to try and learn the skill I acquired of NOT
smiling at anyone when I was out. Look at the "before" pics of my smile (if you can call it that!) and you'd understand why any poor
soul who took a shine to me would make his polite goodbyes once I smiled. A miss-spent youth of very heavy drinking (and smoking,,,which
I still do) had taken its toll , the enamel had fallen away and last november a front tooth just fell off in my breakfast bowl! I'm not
particularly vain but knew I'd just never meet anyone looking like that and it was beginning to get me down tho only my best friend
noticed and hassled me to get my teeth done. Though I'm a great supporter of the NHS, to support that one must accept that for whatever
reasons, if your working etc etc, there's little help. I didn't even have a dentist having slipped off the radar during my alcoholic
days! I have done well out of the credit crunch as my investment properties were intrest linked! So, with 3weeks holidays looming I just
hit google "Dental Holidays". What got me hooked on Dan & Marek's site was the simple honesty of it all . Dan's English is perfect and
the site is very easy to follow but the best bit is you can email them with your simple worries etc and he'll respond personally. So I
literally lifted my camera, took a clear photo of my gap-toothed smile , downloaded it then sent it to Dan almost as a challenge i.e.
you say your affordable so give me a price on this! I asked for a rough quote on replacing my missing front tooth. I'm no dentist but I
honestly couldn't see anyone being able to tidy up my mess as I honestly thought the blackness of my jaw meant somthing more serious was
going on. As promised, the following day Dan sent a personal reply and it was a couple of hundred pounds to replace it with an implant
(I had stressed that I never ever wanted to wear false teeth!). He cleared all my fears about traveling there (its less than 2hrs in
reality from Stanstead) they pick you up at airport & take you to accomodation of your choice ( I'd actually reccommend the cheaper B&B
style as its high standard, and your with "real" locals! A week B&B was 168euros!) Well,,,I'd already shifted a load of my bank savings
into a classic car that year as the money was doing nothing in the bank and I thought why not have a holiday and get the tooth done
while I'm there. Phoned Ryanair, messed about to get the best deal then emailed Dan my arrival time & that was it done,,,,no return
now,,,. I had the first weekend to myself & disappeared on a little adventure in the capital city Bratislava using the train from
Piestany which was a laugh. On monday I met Marek who took Xrays and photos then we had a chat. He was clear that he could do my missing
tooth but posed me the simple question of basically "is that it? ". I admitted I'd love to have a lovely smile & clean teeth but not
"perfect" American style white & uniformly straight. I was doing rough maths in my head as we spoke so Marek suggested how many of the
top row would need to be made good and I agreed 8 including the missing one needed to me made good. He got a quote printed up and said I
should check it and have a think. The quote was for just less than £2700. There was no pressure sales tactic or any
of that carry on, I just went out for a smoke and evaluated. I had not actually planned on any dentist taking on my "challenge" of a
mouth and suddenly here was one who could do it & showed previous work he had done on someone who had looked nearly as bad as me
(nearly! No one looked AS bad!). It was a very private emotional momment as I'd not actually thought this possible and the price is
fantastic . Luckily I'd previously decided to have a weeks hols there and if I went ahead with this it would take quite alot of work. I
bit the bullet and agreed. I was not hassled for money or anything (my bank had ok'd the money by phone.) If Dan & Marek havn't got my
pics on the site you can ask with my blessing, for the pics "of the Irishman" & decide for yourself. Ludimila the hygenist spent ages
"sandblasting!" my bottom row and then taught me how to maintain them. To end, the effect on my confidence and self-esteem is
immesurable, I really still look in the mirror and can't believe I've escaped from dentures.....! I doubt if there are many of you whose
teeth are anywhere near as bad as mine were so you can roughly work out the price of your own but you can simply email them & they'll
give you a very close costing in reply. Ps, the little town of Piestany may not be the gay capital of the world but it is stunningly
beautiful, and a holiday destination in its own right, I loved the place and miss it alot. Many cafes have menus in Slovak then English
so its easy to get by and everything is very low priced so forget about all the exchange rate business with the pound & euro, its still
dirt cheap to buy everything {except electric kettles!!! I bought one for my hotel room! Bring your own tea-bags!} Hugh.
